Holiday Mountain Keeps Austin Weird on New Album, ‘You Be You, Part 1’

Of all the good folks out there trying to keep Austin weird, Texas transplant trio Holiday Mountain are definitely near the forefront. Originally formed at Boston’s Berklee School of Music and currently residing in the Lone Star State’s capital, the band is currently streaming their new album, You Be You, Part One, a genre-bending, all-encompassing pop record that sounds like a mutant fusion of Deee-Lite, of Montreal, and Brazilian Girls.

Kicking off with the single “My Body,” lead singer Lauren Patiño capably slinks over dynamic drums and walls of synth, while the rest of You Be You snatches elements from trap, ’90s R&B, and dubby psychedelia. Stream the seven-track set below, pre-order it here, watch out for its official release on April 28 via Clean Bill Music, and catch them at Austin’s Utopiafest and on tour.
