Bob Mould and Taylor Hawkins Blast Through Two Tracks on ‘Kimmel’

Bob Mould 'Kimmel' video Taylor Hawkins 'The War' 'Hey Mr. Grey'

At 53, Bob Mould can still rock out with the best of them. He proved that last night by delivering a fierce two-song performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with the added bombast of Taylor Hawkins behind the kit. The Foo Fighters drummer took the place of Mould’s usual bandmate — and occasional SPIN contributor — Jon Wurster to rip through “The War” and “Hey Mr. Grey” from the June-released Beauty & Ruin LP. The mini-set has all the energy and volume that made Mould’s stints in Hüsker Dü and Sugar so influential, and it’s easy to see that Hawkins is having a grand old time being part of it, if only for one night. Mould is on tour through the fall, with his next gig coming August 30 as part of the Minnesota State Fair’s Music on a Stick show alongside Cloud Cult, Har Mar Superstar, Doomtree, and other special guests.
